Pre-Travel Testing Program

The State has updated its Safe Travels Program requirements and covers:

 

  • Travelers to Hawaii from any other US State  (requires Hawaii Safe Travels Account).
    • If you are fully vaccinated, upload your vaccine card into the Safe Travels portal.

 

    • If you are not fully vaccinated you will require a Pre-travel test from an Approved Hawaii State Testing Partner.
      • Anyone who takes the wrong test or a test from a providers who is not on the Approved State Testing List will be subject to a mandatory 10 day quarantine and will not be able to stay in a vacation rental home.
      • Antigen and Antibody tests are NOT accepted.
    • Travelers will need to show the Safe Travels QR code on your phone showing you are not subject to quarantine to the car rental company.   After that guests are free to enjoy a wonderful vacation on the Big Island of Hawai’i.

 

  • Travelers to Hawaii from International Locations (Canada, Japan etc) who travel to Hawaii via  any other US State

Examples:  Calgary  – San Francisco – Kona –  requires Hawaii Safe Travels Account.

    • Vaccinated Travelers will upload vaccine documents into the Safe Travels Account.
    • Ensure you have your Vaccine card / documents are with you when you arrive in Hawaii
    • Travelers will need to show the Safe Travels QR code on your phone showing you are not subject to quarantine to the car rental company.   After that guests are free to enjoy a wonderful vacation on the Big Island of Hawai’i.
    • Please note that International Travelers must meet the CDC requirements for travel to the United States.

 

  • Travelers to Hawaii from International Locations (Canada, Japan etc) who travel directly to Hawaii

Example:  Vancouver to Kona.

    • Travelers will be  pre-cleared  prior to boarding the aircraft and will not need to create a Hawaii Safe Travels Account

 

    • Rental Car companies will require that you  show your  passport and boarding pass. Airline and cargo crew will show the departure page on their passport and work ID
    • Please note that International Travelers must meet the CDC requirements for travel to the United States.

Where can I get tested ?

  • Inter-Island Travel

    There are restrictions or tests required to travel between Hawaiian Islands.

  • Vault (Mail In Supervised over Zoom - Home test)

    At-home tests with real-time audio-visual supervision are available with Vault Health, the first FDA-authorized saliva test.

    Tests are mailed with accurate results in 72 hours or less.

    Note: Vault just lowered price to $119. Guest experiences: 10/17 - We have been hearing test results over the last two weeks within 36-48 hours from the time the test is taken until results which includes the overnight UPS shipment.   • American Airlines
  • Hawaiian Airlines near SFO & LAX

    Hawaiian Airlines has a great website with their testing details both drive-through about 10 miles from SFO and mail-in options through VAULT.

    Our guests can visit www.schedulecovidtesting.com to book an appointment for the Droplet Digital PCR tests, a “gold standard” COVID-19 screening offered by Worksite Labs that meets state of Hawai‘i guidelines and is available to travelers of all ages, including children. Test results, which are guaranteed within 36 hours for $90, or $150 for day-of-travel express service, should be uploaded to the state of Hawai‘i’s online Safe Travels form.

    Hawaiian Airlines is also partnering with Vault Vault COVID Testing

  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines at SFO

    United Airlines is offering travelers ability to book a test at SFO for COVID.

    Results are available in 15 minutes. Pricing is currently listed as $250.00.

    United has indicated it plans to expand the airports it will offer testing for over the next several months.

    Guest experiences: 10/17 - Guest tested 2pm and received results overnight at the off-airport COLOR testing center. Other guests tested at more expensive airport testing with very quick results.

  • Color (United Airlines )

    Color supports the nation’s first COVID-19 testing program for airline passengers. Information can be found at Color United Airlines

  • CVS

    Beginning October 10, travelers may schedule an appointment up to two days in the future at select CVS Pharmacy drive-thru locations. Pre-registration is required. Registration instructions and costs can be found at Book your appointment through CVS Testing for Travel

  • Kaiser Permanente (members only)

    Kaiser Permanente members may schedule a test online, or contact the appointment call center or nurse advice line in their home region for scheduling instructions. Kaiser Permanente members returning home to Hawaii may call the Away-from-Home Travel Line at 951-268-3900 for scheduling instructions. Information can be found at Kaiser Testing for Travel

    Guest experience - 10/17. Results in 24-36 hours at Pleasanton and Oakland

  • Discovery Health MD (Seattle)

    Beginning October 12, individuals traveling to Hawaii may schedule testing online with same and next day results at designated testing sites. A limited number of walk-ups can be accommodated. Information can be found at Discovery Health MD

  • American Family Care Clinics - Oregan

    COVID-19 tests are available at clinics on the AFC Urgent Care website. Schedule in advance to guarantee appointment availability.

  • Bartell Drugs (Seattle area)

    Bartell Drugs has been added and is an Alaska Airlines partner. Bartell Drugs Testing

    Guest experience: 10/17 - 36 hours to get results from test

  • Walgreens

    Testing is available at no cost to eligible individuals who meet CDC criteria. Tests available for ages five and older. All drive-thru testing locations operate outdoors and patients do not leave their vehicles. Appointment required.

  • Is my vaccine accepted ?

    Hawaii's Safe Travels Program has been updated to follow the CDC requirements on Vaccines for International Travel.

  • How is the State determining what tests are accepted?

    Exhibit B of the 14th proclamation: “State approved COVID-19 test” means a test to determine the presence of active COVID-19 infection that has been approved for use under these rules by the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH). Currently approved is the processing by laboratories that are licensed or certified by Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of specimens for nucleic acid amplification testing approved or authorized by the United States Food and Drug Administration, pursuant to an Emergency Use Authorization or other authorization for COVID-19 testing. For purposes of Sections 4 and 6, only tests administered by Trusted Testing Partners shall qualify.

  • Do I need to get a negative test if traveling between Islands within the State of Hawaii (Inter-island)

    Currently there is no requirement to have a negative test if traveling between Islands.
