Hawaii has a unique and rich history and culture, and the Big Island is a great place to learn more about it.
Enjoy traditional arts and food at a luau with stunning hula and fire dance performances, or visit one of many historical sites! Historical parks and sites are often a great way to get in a bit of a hike while learning about ancient Hawaii. Many of these sites have self-guided tours, and some even have junior park ranger programs for extra fun for your little ones. There are also guided tours and other experiences available. Some historical parks also have excellent spots for snorkelling and scuba diving, so you can fit in many of your vacation activities in one spot!
Don’t forget to look for petroglyphs at some of these parks! Petroglyphs are rock carvings made by ancient Hawaiians, often depicting people and animals.
